Hello from a heating up Bloemfontein which should be ready for your arrival at my braai next month. I just spent lunch with a local journo who wants to do a story on Geocaching in the city. I found that he had been put on caching from social media. I'm sure many of you get sent exciting videos from muggle friends who finally get it. It helps that there's the additional authority given by the algorithms, I mean, it it's on the feed, it means that you must enjoy it.
So the next mission will be how to galvanize that energy into our local media.
We also need to get planning on the AGM for this year. It's usually end of September or early October. Last year we had Cape Town. Where should we host this year? We've been increasingly successful with the remote participation. That was even translated into our successful remote pub quiz evening. Thanks so much for all who attended. That was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to our next awesome national remote event.
Finally, thanks to team Trev and Danie, our stats dudes. They've added some interesting stats to the regular ones below. You'll also notice that we're back above the 15k mark in terms of caches in the field. Well done to the community!
This Month's Caching Series Scuba Caches
One of the trick questions in the quiz related to scuba caches. Did you know we had a few in the interior too?
Thanks to all who partook around the country. It was tremendous fun. Congratulations to our top 5 and now we all know that {these brackets are called braces}
Feature App of the month Apps make our lives better and whether you're using the official app, C:Geo, Cachly or whatever your poison, there are so many other apps to make geocaching better, even if they're not designed for geocaching.
When you're in front of your PC, it's not a problem. When you're in the field however, it's a different story. An app that has the capabilities of the Geocaching Toolbox all at your phone's disposal to quickly decrypt field puzzles is a winner of an idea and that idea is right here. Pity it's only for iOS.
Because sometimes, for some people, it is about the numbers…
